Common Core Writing: Expository (Sep – Dec)

Write clear essays! Through the analysis of well-written cause and effect, compare and contrast, and how-to texts, students learn to classify and define a concept or idea. Small class sizes and ongoing feedback from expert instructors guides students to write structured and engaging essays. Classes focus on format, use of evidence, voice, word choice, and grammar. Max of 12 students.

Common Core Writing: Persuasive (Jan – Mar)

Win arguments with compelling facts and an organized delivery. Your child will learn the art of persuasion through engaging writing activities. Students analyze persuasive texts and learn techniques for effective word choice, developing points of view, and crafting opinion pieces. Small classes of 12 students allow for ongoing feedback from expert instructors!

Common Core Writing: Narrative (Mar – May)

Tackle that Common Core test with confidence! Directed writing strategies and preparation teaches six skills of effective writing: organization, voice, content, clarity, grammar/mechanics, and sentence fluency for effective narratives with strong characters and plots. Experienced educators, detailed feedback!

Common Core Writing: Journalism (Jun – Aug)

Work as a team to create a class newspaper. Contribute well written articles and reports by practicing three important common core writing concepts; descriptive, persuasive, and narrative writing. Students focus on detail, series of events, and research. Taught at age appropriate level. Max of 12 students.

Book Club

Book Club seeks to foster a love of reading for all age levels! Students are exposed to different texts that will challenge and capture their imagination and make reading comprehension easy and fun. Students will learn to be responsive readers by engaging with the texts through vocabulary, elements of literature, and close reading to inspire real-world connections!  Each student will receive his or her own copy of the book to keep after the conclusion of the course.
